About the conference

After two successful editions of the multidisciplinary conference “Science of Psychedelics in Practice”, we proudly present its third edition. What started in 2023 as a testing of interest for this subject area, and exceeded all initial expectations, has today grown into a recognizable meeting place of experts from the region and beyond.

The conference is organized with the aim of raising awareness about the current research into psychedelics and their potential use for medicinal and therapeutic purposes. We continue the dialogue between experts in various disciplines and the members of the public concerned about the subject that has long been marginalized due to stigmatization and criminalization, but is more and more present in science, clinical practice, and public discourse.

Last year, the conference received special recognition from the authorized institutions. It was thus acknowledged as a form of vocational training of the Croatian experts by the Croatian Psychological Chamber, Croatian Medical Chamber, and Croatian Chamber of Psychotherapists.

More and more clinical studies unequivocally show that psychedelics like psilocybin, MDMA, and LSD have a significant therapeutic potential in the treatment of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and addiction. This edition of the conference continues to build the bridge between those global movements and the domestic expert community.

The format and the programme

Third edition brings the (temporary) novelty: the entire programme of the conference will be held online, with the possibility of live streaming from the entire region. The recordings of the presentations will be available to the participants 30 days after the conference. After the end of the official programme, the participants have the opportunity to join the after party in Zagreb, which is imagined as a space for informal networking and conversations that rarely fit into an hour of presentation.

The programme includes:

  • Invited presentations — prominent researchers and clinicians from the region and abroad
  • Participants’ presentations — active researchers, clinicians and therapists with various topics in the field
  • Afterparty in Zagreb — informal networking after the programme

Who is the conference aimed at?

The conference is aimed at doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, researchers, and students of related sciences, as well as for the public interested in mental health and psychedelic research.

The conference has been registered with the competent chambers, and the members of the Croatian Medical Chamber, the Croatian Psychological Chamber, and the Croatian Chamber of Psychotherapists can expect to be awarded points for participation, as was the case last year.

Why this conference?

In the international context, psychedelic research has flourished – clinical trials of psilocybin and MDMA are showing promising results in the treatment of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other disorders. At the same time, the topic remains marginalized in the Croatian and regional space, with limited research capacities and prevailing myths in both the public and professional circles.

The conference is a response to this gap: a space where global research meets local context, where experts exchange experiences and the interested public receives evidence-based information.

Previous editions have become platforms for experts from countries such as the U.S., Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the U.K., a tradition we continue to nurture. We are pleased to say that the previous conferences also received wide media attention – the conference was covered by Jutarnji list, Večernji list, H-alter, srednja.hr, and other relevant local media, confirming that the interest in this topic in the Croatian public is undoubtedly present.
